REGGAE TUNES I MISS WHEN I AM AWAY...

This week I had the occasion to go camping with my wife and the hounds. While camping is a great endeavor- out in the woods away from it all, I found the quiet maddening. I found myself humming to stave off insanity, and the list of tunes that popped into my head is presented here- Reggae I desperately missed whilst off in the middle of the woods. My wife could sense my tension, but I figure she probably does not get it, so I present them to you- no rhyme or reason, just songs stuck in my head.
As Always- Enjoy
1. The Wailing Souls- Mass Charley Ground
2. Jackie Edwards- What You Gonna Do
3. Bob Marley & the Wailers -Caution

6.The Viceroys- Let Him Go
7.The Bleechers with Lynn Taitt & the Jets- Girl You Ruff
8.The Ethiopians- So You Look On It
9.Freddie McKay- Help Me
10. Johnny Osbourne- You Can’t Buy My Love (on Swing Easy)
11.Cornell Campbell- Music Keep On Playing

One for Buck...A Merle Haggard Tribute

I got this friend Buck I always argue with over who is the "King Of Bakersfield". I say it is Buck Owens...who I am a huge fan of, he says it is Merle Haggard- because he is crazy.
Anyway, I have to do a show for him because first, he asked me too, and second, he has been dealt a crappy hand lately- all you who come for the Reggae- bless up Buck and his wife right now for me and I promise I will drop some scorchers on you soon. So, an obligation to satisfy a friend who is obviously crazy- do a Merle Show...perhaps the Prince of Bakersfield? Not that the man is bad- these songs are amazing...Buck Owens is just better. But what do I know about music right?
Seen- Merle Haggard:
1.California Blues (Blue Yodel No. 4)
2.Think I’ll Just Stay Here And Drink

He began his career as the driver for Johnny Jenkins and the Pinetoppers and was discovered during one of their recording sessions...imagine the first time someone heard that voice, as he belted out "These Arms Of Mine" at a Volt session- unbelievable.
Otis died before I was born, but he is remembered on a nearly daily basis around these parts. I have mixed the old with the new here- no rhyme or reason, and I have failed to include his only "hit" as I feel, like most "hits", it is sub-par. Hope you enjoy the selection.

2.The Detroit Spinners- It Hurts To Be In Love

Just an American Boy

Well, these days of intense heat and no requests have gotten to me, I cannot for the life of me figure out what to play, especially when I look at the Reggae- help me out folks, I am dying here (if you request Claudette and the Corporation, prepare for me to be rude).
Anyway, I don't think I like anyone as much as I like Steve Earle- really. Out of everyone that is still making records today, I think he is the tops, weird huh?
Anyway, I got the chance to listen to some idiot talk about how he hated Steve Earle and how he was a trader to the country (who cares?) because of John Walkers Blues. I asked if he had ever heard the song and he said no...gave me some line about not listening to it on principle. Well, he used less syllables. Anyway- I think if half the people pissed about the song listened to it, they would find it was the opposite of what the media made it out to be...but I am surrounded by morons, and I am sure you are too.
Jeez- I went on forever right there- lets get to the tunes:
1.Rivers Of Babylon
2.In The Jailhouse Now (with the V-ROYS)
3.Johnny Come Lately (with the Pogues)
4.Steve’s Last Ramble
5.Galway Girl (with Sharron Shannon)
7.Jerusalem
8.Guitar Town
9.Tom Ames Prayer
10. Texas Eagle (with the Del McCoury Band)
11.John Walker’s Blues
12.Creepy Jackalope Eye with the SUPERSUCKERS

<itunes:summary> Well, these days of intense heat and no requests have gotten to me, I cannot for the life of me figure out what to play, especially when I look at the Reggae- help me out folks, I am dying here (if you request Claudette and the Corporation, prepare for me to be rude).

Anyway, I think I was about 13 when I discovered the RAMONES, and that day changed my life. They were some of the first records I ever bought, some of the first music I loved, the first band I went into "completist" mode on (those of you that know me know there are lots of those now)...the first time I ever was consumed by music.
They are all gone now, but some of us still remember...

Is there any Country made anymore worth listenin' to?

Sure there is, you just gotta dig.
Cloverdale is about as country as it gets, and everyone here listens to country, including me (when the old soul and reggae are not doing the trick). I suppose I am destroying my "street cred" by posting this stuff lately, but it is the "Songs Stuck in MY Head" and not anyone elses, so I guess I have that right. Really, I think the reason I like Reggae so much is that it has a lot in common with old country, and so does this- you will find no Toby Kieth or Shania Twain in here.
Here are some great songs from my collection of Alterna-Twang (which is nearly as large as my Reggae collection) that I hope y'all will like. Anyway, give it a shot- you may be surprised by it. Most the bands herein are young hard-working sorts who could use your cash if you do like what you here, so if there is something you like and cannot find, let me know, I can direct you toward the band.
Here is the set:
1.Shut Up And Get On The Plane- Drive By Truckers
2.Hard Livin’ (Live) Justin Townes Earle
3.I Can Get Us Out Of Here- Lucero
4.Hard Core Troubador- Steve Earle
5.Medicine Hat (acoustic live radio version) Son Volt
6.What May Seem Like Love- Whiskeytown
7.Wagon Wheel (first time recorded Live)- Old Crow Medicine Show
8.Florida- Patty Griffin
9.Anna Leigh- The Sadies
10. Ancony Bell- Gillian Welch
11.No Depression- Uncle Tupelo
12.Let It Ride- Ryan Adams & The Cardinals
13.Over The Cliff- Old 97’s
14.Old Man From The Mountain (Live) - The Gourds
15.Liza- Wrinkle Neck Mules
16.Witching Hour- Austin Collins
17.I Pity The Poor Bastard- The Dark Horses
18.Burn In Hell- Two Cow Garage
19. College Days- Robert Earl Keen Jr.

I know it has nothing to do with radio, but it is the best cause I can think of and the fight against cancer could use your help- check them out here:
